Flower Feud

Flower Feud

Flower Feud (2017) 3’ x 3’

Flower Feud ended up being a donation to charity, but when I started it, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted. The colors and the textures just evolved and heightened the more paint I added.

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art” Andy Warhol

Chaos

Chaos

Chaos (2012) 4’ x 6’

For Chaos, I had some clear ideas of shape and texture. Since it was my biggest canvas to work on at the time, I wasn’t sure how I wanted to fill it. This painting took some time, but the end result had the shape I had in mind, but definitely ended up more “chaotic” looking that I originally imagined.

Intersections

Intersections

Intersections (2017) 3’ x 3’

Intersections came out of my want to start a painting with a gold or metallic base. Once I had the base color down, the movement of the painting began.

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep” Scott Adams

Zest Blend Love

Zest Blend Love

Zest Blend Love (2018) 5’ x 7’

My largest canvas to paint on yet, and I knew exactly where it was going and what I wanted to do, it was just a matter of time, patience, and a lot of paint!

Fire Blooms

Fire Blooms

Fire Blooms (2012) 2’ x 2’6”

Fire Blooms came from my love of opposing colors, like blue and orange. It’s my favorite color combination and that really was how I started and ended with this painting.

Blooms Afire

Blooms Afire

Blooms Afire (2016) 4’ x 2’

I started Blooms Afire in Maryland because I was inspired by the fall colors of red, orange, and yellow. When I brought the painting down to South Carolina to finish, the original image in my head certainly changed into what it is now.

“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity” Dorothy Parker

Water

Water

Water (2019) 3’4” x 1’4”

Water was painted to the song Water by Jack Garratt for an art show held at the studio I teach at. I had a rough sketch of it from a while back, but just hadn’t put it into a painting, and it manifested itself as Water.

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change” Brené Brown

Weee

Weee

Weee (2018-2019) 1’ x 1’

The title comes from the fun I had at creating this painting. It started with a basic clash of rainbow colors and metallics, but I knew I wanted more out of it, and it wasn’t until the feathers and the extra layers of paint I added, did it really come to life.

Dot

Dot

Dot (2012-2019) 6” x 6”

Dot was seven years in the making. Every time I would add a layer of paint, it still just didn’t feel or look done. I would add a layer and let it sit, and I spent more time looking at it than painting it, and sometimes that’s just what happens with creativity.
